Martha Gallagher

On January 15th, Piano by Nature is thrilled to present the return of Adirondack Harper Martha Gallagher, a friend, neighbor, colleague, and absolute pistol of a performer. We in the Adirondacks are fortunate, as Martha has been providing musical sustenance to us all for many years, masterfully combining her immediate connection to joy with her deep relationship to music and nature. PBN will now present her indefatigable musical spirit and indomitable life-force at its best. For our concert, Martha will tailor a unique group of songs sewn together with poignant thoughts and stories, artfully creating signature moments of absolute beauty for her audience. Watching and hearing her perform is a master class on music, life, and self and a perfect way to start the new year off right. Join us online Saturday, January 15th at 7PM for a concert of hope, renewal, and quite possibly the best heart-to-heart of the year!

To join this free concert, sign-up on the Piano by Nature email list at the bottom of any page of our website–and we will send you updates and the link needed for the concert.

Listen to the January 13th NCPR interview Martha gave in the lead-up to her concert here: “Adirondack harper offers blessings and reflections for live audiences.”

About Martha Gallagher

Martha delights audiences with her distinctive and richly varied mix of songs, stories, and in-the-moment inspirations. A folk harper and vocalist, she weaves a musical tapestry of primarily original music, sprinkled with perhaps a jazz standard here or a traditional folk song there, but with a joie de vivre everywhere.

As a professional musician, Martha had felt musically stuck and stale when she first moved to The Adirondacks 30 years ago. But the magic of this beautiful region soon released a flood of inspiration that flowed into her music. Recognizing what a gift this was, she adopted the moniker The Adirondack Harper and as such, has toured extensively the US and Canada, delighted that there is almost always someone in the audience who has a connection to the Adirondacks.

Martha has created an online music series called Just A Moment Music. Daily contemplative, improvised instrumental selections are only one minute in length, making them the perfect accompaniment to personal mediation, prayer, mindfulness, and mental health maintenance practices, as well as for simply enjoying a moment of peaceful music.

She loves working with individuals, businesses, and organizations, helping them to connect more deeply and to celebrate good things, moments, or people in their lives by creating special blessings, using words and music.

Professional highlights of her 40+ year career include performing with six-time Grammy winners The Chieftains. She has also appeared as a guest soloist with several symphonies and been featured on numerous television and radio programs; appearances include BBC Television, Northeast Public Radio, North Country Public Radio, and Good Morning Arizona. Martha has been a guest artist/clinician at The Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory. She has 7 full-length recordings on her indie label, Singing Strings.

What will Martha be playing for her Piano by Nature concerts? You will have to attend to find out, but know for certain that the concerts will be filled with joy and wonderful music!

Having performed during the premiere season of Piano by Nature–Season 1!!! (2008)–Martha is delighted to be returning to be part of the 2021-22 season. Check out our poster gallery to see her original season-one poster.
